Electricity powers the world, but it can be very dangerous, electricians are coming to the rescue of overconfident do it yourselfers everyday, unfortunately some people are foolish enough to try and fix their problems themselves, therefore you won’t be surprised to know home electrical repairs sits at the top of the list of all domestic accidents – please leave it to the experts.
This brings me onto my next point how do you find an expert electrician, with so many accreditations, governing bodies and acronyms it can be a little confusing. I’ve put together a list of tips to help you find that perfect electrical contractor.
Tip 1- Ask your friends and family – referrals are great and it’s much easier to trust someone who’s been recommended to you personally.
Tip 2 – Ask them for customer references, all good electricians will be happy to do this.
Tip 3 – If you find an electrician online or in the phone book, meet up with them and interview them. All reputable electrical companies will have a online website and will be more than happy to sit down and have a chat.
As well as great tips for finding electricians, I’ve put together a list of how to spots signs of dodgy electricians:
1- Cash only – any legitimate company will accept various types of payments
2- Over-emphasise of faults
3- Ridicule rival electricians
4- Extremely cheap quote – Too good to true
5- Confuse you with electrical jargon
6- Are cagey when asked to supply references
7- Can’t provide detailed price because details may change
